Dennis Hopper Presents Out of the Blue

Legendary film actor, Dennis Hopper, recounted his experience acting and directing, Out of the Blue (1980), and after the screening he took time to answer a few questions from the audience.

“ This is a film that I directed. … And I shot the movie in four and a half weeks. …. it got into the Cannes Film Festival ….and the material was so rough that the Canadian Government wouldn’t put their name on it….. and it was never distributed basically.”

(on directing himself)

“I think it’s a lot easier….. when you’re working that quickly, being in the scene… it can cause things to happen. You can touch somebody, you can laugh …. you can take something a different way. If you’re standing behind the camera directing… you have to ….. try to make them happen another way… … so in that sense I think it’s a lot easier. … I think better probably from that position than I do on the other side of the camera.”
